Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 16 series has officially gone on sale, with Malaysia among the first 58 countries to receive the new devices. The lineup includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, all powered by the newly developed A18 chip. These devices represent a significant leap forward in both performance and battery life, showcasing Apple’s push to redefine the smartphone experience.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus introduce Camera Control, a new feature that enhances the camera’s usability through hardware-software integration. The 48MP Fusion camera, paired with a 12MP Ultra Wide camera with macro photography capabilities, is designed to capture high-quality images with more flexibility than ever. Users can also take advantage of the 2x optical-quality telephoto option, effectively providing two cameras in one device. With enhanced Photographic Styles and spatial photo and video capture, Apple continues to prioritize creativity, enabling users to personalize their images and relive moments in vivid detail through the upcoming Apple Vision Pro.
The A18 chip powers the entire series, delivering a 30% performance boost over previous models. This new chipset enables the devices to handle demanding tasks, including high-performance gaming and computational photography, while optimizing power efficiency. The improved thermal design contributes to up to 30% better sustained performance, making the iPhone 16 series ideal for heavy multitasking and extended use.
For users in Malaysia, the iPhone 16 starts at RM3,999, and the iPhone 16 Plus is priced from RM4,499. These models are available in five colors: black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine. The Pro versions, starting at RM4,999 for the iPhone 16 Pro and RM5,999 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, offer enhanced features, including a 6.3-inch display for the Pro and a 6.9-inch display for the Pro Max—the largest ever in an iPhone. Both Pro models come equipped with the A18 Pro chip, boasting a 16-core Neural Engine for enhanced machine learning and graphical performance, as well as hardware-accelerated ray tracing for more immersive gaming experiences.
In addition to these upgrades, the new iPhone series is designed with improved durability, featuring Ceramic Shield protection that is twice as tough as other smartphone glass, and an internal structure that allows for a larger battery. Apple also emphasizes its commitment to environmental sustainability, with over 30% of the materials used in the devices made from recycled content.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 series began on September 13, and the devices became available for purchase on September 20. Malaysia, along with other major markets, will also see a range of new accessories, including cases and faster wireless charging options compatible with MagSafe.
Apple’s latest innovations in AI, bundled under the “Apple Intelligence” branding, will be integrated into the iPhone 16 lineup through software updates later this year. These features will offer new levels of interaction, allowing users to transcribe audio, generate images, and engage with an enhanced Siri, which can now provide more contextual, personalized responses. With these advancements, Apple continues to position itself as a leader in blending cutting-edge hardware with intuitive, AI-driven software.
