Continental-tyre-ContiSeal

Continental has announced the expansion of its ContiSeal technology, targeting a broader range of products and rim sizes. This move is poised to enhance the safety of Malaysian drivers, addressing the unique challenges posed by local road conditions, such as heavy rainfall, high traffic volumes, potholes, and road debris.

ContiSeal, first introduced in 2003, has been refined over two decades to seal 80% of all punctures and nearly all punctures up to 5mm in diameter as they occur. This technology employs a vulcanisation process to enhance tyre durability and elasticity, reducing cavity noise by up to 3dB through minimized mass space within the tyre. The sealant layer, applied inside the tread area, maintains the tyre’s integrity and performance even under rigorous conditions. It creates an airtight seal to prevent air leakage, allowing drivers to continue their journey without immediate roadside tyre changes.

Unlike run-flat tyres, ContiSeal tyres perform like standard tyres without compromising comfort and require no specific vehicle modifications. They maintain their integrity and performance after a puncture, permitting unrestricted driving and the possibility of repair if necessary.

While the initial cost of self-sealing tyres may be higher, they offer long-term savings by reducing the need for roadside assistance, towing, and frequent tyre replacements. Continental backs the ContiSeal technology with a standard manufacturing warranty, providing a pro-rated reimbursement for sealing performance defects. Additionally, the Total Confidence Plan (TCP) offers a one-to-one tyre replacement for unexpected road damage within the first year, with claims managed through the Conti TCP app.

To ensure long-term safety and performance, Continental recommends using a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to detect pressure drops and regular tyre checks by specialists. It is also advised that drivers visit dealers for thorough inspections to prevent moisture from damaging the tyre’s internal structure.

By July 2024, Continental aims to fully incorporate the ContiSeal technology across popular tyre models, including the UltraContact UC7, PremiumContact C, and UltraContact UC6 SUV, in sizes ranging from 16” to 20”. These tyres will be available at participating dealers nationwide and on Continental’s official Shopee and Lazada e-commerce stores.
