Clarion Malaysia, a global leader in automotive in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) equipment, has successfully trialed the nation’s first 5G-enabled advanced manufacturing line. This pioneering initiative is powered by YTL Communications’ Yes 5G Private Network and Cnergenz’s smart manufacturing solutions.
The event was graced by prominent figures including YB Gobind Singh, Minister of Digital Malaysia, Ma Sivanesan, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital, and Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid, Chief Strategy Officer of Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). They toured Clarion Malaysia’s state-of-the-art private 5G-enabled smart manufacturing plant, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Malaysia utilizing private 5G and IR4.0 technologies in advanced manufacturing.
Tan Teong Khin, Managing Director of Clarion Malaysia, highlighted the transformative impact of this deployment. “The deployment of our AI-enabled smart factory is made possible by our partnership with Yes and Cnergenz, where their technical expertise and solution capabilities are pivotal in the implementation of this game-changing innovation. By embracing the Yes 5G Private Network and AI-based innovation, Clarion Malaysia is now able to digitally transform our manufacturing approach and reduce our processing time by 70%, with enhanced materials management, improved efficiency and higher quality—leading to lower operational costs and better production quality.”
The smart facility leverages Yes’ high-capacity, ultra-low latency Private 5G connectivity to support mission-critical operations and stringent security requirements. Cnergenz complements this with advanced manufacturing solutions, including cloud-based inventory systems and AI-powered Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), ensuring seamless integration and real-time communication between employees and machinery. This synergy, supported by next-generation ERP and PLM from Dassault Systèmes, has significantly enhanced production efficiency and quality.
Wing K. Lee, CEO of YTL Communications, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of this initiative. “As the champion for 5G in Malaysia, we were the first to bring 5G to consumers and today, we are proud to be the first to bring private 5G network to advanced manufacturing. In this new era, manufacturing is not just about cost management but also about actionable intelligence and adaptability. Yes 5G Private Network provides the critical high-capacity, ultra-low latency communications fabric to enable next-generation smart manufacturing, integrating AI and robotics into the factory floor.”
The Yes 5G Private Network, developed in collaboration with Intel and QCT, adheres to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) global standards for 5G SA (Standalone) and the Network Security Assurance Scheme (NESAS) for top-tier 5G security. Equipped with Intel Xeon Scalable processors, this network ensures robust security and minimal latency, making it highly suitable for mission-critical deployments. The onsite private network, encompassing device to radio to 5G SA core, guarantees unparalleled flexibility, security, and resilience for Clarion Malaysia.
Cnergenz’s contributions include 5G-enabled manufacturing solutions such as intelligent scanners, smart racks, X-ray automated counters, and AMRs. These innovations automate processes and minimize human errors from materials management to assembly and delivery, revolutionizing the factory floor to warehouse operations.
