Kaspersky has unveiled the latest update to its operating system designed for thin clients, Kaspersky Thin Client 2.0, promising enhanced connectivity, faster application delivery, and a more user-friendly interface. This new version, positioned as a cornerstone of Kaspersky’s Cyber Immune solution, aims to bolster thin client infrastructure across various sectors such as healthcare, finance, education, and manufacturing.
A thin client, serving as an alternative to traditional local workstations, is a streamlined endpoint device that enables users to access a remote desktop. The thin client market, which reached $1.18 billion in 2020, is projected to grow to $1.36 billion by 2028, as reported by Verified Market Research. In response to this growing demand, Kaspersky has developed its thin client solution based on KasperskyOS to ensure secure connections to remote desktops.
Kaspersky Thin Client 2.0 is designed following the Cyber Immune approach, meaning it is ‘secure by design’ and capable of maintaining critical functions even in hostile environments, thanks to the underlying security features of KasperskyOS. This approach eliminates the need for additional security software, subsequently reducing the total cost of ownership.
The product comes pre-installed on the Centerm F620 hardware platform, following an OEM agreement with Centerm, a leader in the thin client market. The latest version brings significant updates in connectivity and performance. It supports new methods of remote connection using HTML5 technology through the Web Access application, allowing access to Citrix Workspace and VMware Horizon infrastructure, as well as connections to business applications via Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.
Improvements in performance include faster application delivery, reduced boot times, and quicker updates due to a compact operating system image. The system also boasts a deployment time of approximately two minutes through automatic connection.
Enhancements in usability include support for audio conferences and a new document printing function from the guest operating system. If connections drop, Kaspersky Thin Client 2.0 automatically reconnects to the remote desktop, and its updated notification system offers troubleshooting tips. The connection panel in the remote environment has also been redesigned, featuring new animations and customizable interface options.
Kaspersky Thin Client 2.0 is particularly tailored for organizations with extensive branch networks and those that are geographically widespread, such as in the financial, healthcare, educational, and government sectors, as well as in transportation, industrial enterprises, smart city infrastructures, and industrial automation industries.
