The year 2023 began promising an electrifying experience with the celebration of 20 Years of the BMW Group in Malaysia. BMW Group Malaysia takes this opportunity to reflect on the profound initiatives and activities undertaken over the past two decades, solidifying its position at the forefront of the industry and establishing itself as the leader in the premium segment of Malaysia.

From the establishment of the BMW Headquarters in Malaysia to the support received from customers, dealers, associates, and partners, BMW Group Malaysia has successfully maintained its leading position, driven by a strong foundation of trust and collaboration.

BMW Sets Up Headquarters in Cyberjaya.

In 2003, the BMW Group made a significant move in the country by establishing its headquarters in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, showcasing the premium automaker’s strong commitment and reflecting its confidence in Malaysia as an excellent investment destination. This decision highlighted Malaysia’s crucial role in the region and BMW’s ambition to become the leading premium automaker in the country. Since its establishment, the BMW headquarters has experienced tremendous growth in team size and has actively cultivated a diverse and inclusive work environment, fostering a multi-racial and multi-gender workforce as well as management team.

Extension of BMW Facilities in Malaysia

The BMW Group presence in Malaysia extended beyond its headquarters in Cyberjaya. The organisation strategically positioned various key touch-points across the country to ensure efficient operations and seamless services. In Cyberjaya, BMW established the National Sales Centre and the National Financial Services Centre. These centres served as key hubs for sales and financial services, respectively, supporting the premium automaker’s operations and facilitating its customer-centric approach in Malaysia.

To strengthen its manufacturing capabilities, BMW Malaysia established its Assembly Facilities at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park in Kedah together with its premium partner INOKOM Corporation, Sime Darby Motors’ pioneer motor vehicle manufacturing and assembly in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER). These facilities played a vital role in producing BMW vehicles, supporting not only the Malaysian market but also catering to the broader needs of the BMW Group in the Asia-Pacific region. Recognising the significance of data management, BMW then established the BMW Group Data Centre (GDC) in Cyberjaya. The GDC served as a central hub for data storage, processing, and analysis, enabling BMW to harness valuable insights and optimize its operations.

Additionally, the BMW Group Regional Training Centre was established in Cyberjaya to provide comprehensive technical and non-technical training programs for the brands BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce for the Asia Pacific Region. These programs have since also included Digital Systems and High Voltage Expertise to support the development of Electric Vehicles (EV), ensuring that BMW’s workforce in the region remained well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.

To ensure the seamless distribution of parts and accessories, BMW also established the BMW Group Parts Distribution Centre at the Free Industrial Zone of the Senai International Airport in Senai, Johor. This facility plays a crucial role in supporting over 23 markets in the Asia-Pacific region, efficiently managing the supply chain and ensuring the availability of genuine for parts for the brands of the BMW Group in the region.

Extensive Dealership Network and Exceptional Customer Support in Malaysia.

In the years the BMW Group has been operating in Malaysia, the premium automaker has also experienced remarkable growth in its dealership network, which has allowed the brand to cater to a wider customer base and provide exceptional services. With a total of 23 authorized dealerships nationwide as of today for the brands BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad vehicles, offering extensive Sales, Service, Spare Parts and Systems (4S) capabilities, the network has also become easily accessible to customers across the country. The expansion of the BMW Group’s dealership network in Malaysia has been a strategic move to ensure that customers can conveniently find their desired models, service their vehicles as well as gain access to fast charging of their electric vehicles with premium creature comforts.
