The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is now available in Malaysia, a midrange phone, part of the Galaxy A series.
Among my first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G are fairly good. There’s a 6.5-inch AMOLED display capable of 120Hz refresh rates, similar to the more expensive smartphones like the Galaxy S22. The phone is powered by a 5nm Octa-core processor which Samsung didn’t specify, but its likely an Exynos 1280.

The packaging of the Galaxy A53 uses sustainably sourced paper, while the device itself uses recycled post-consumer materials (PCM) for the side buttons and SIM card trays.
Weighting around 189g, the phone has a plastic back which feels nice to hold, although not a ‘premium feel’, which is expected at this price point.
The Galaxy A53 5G comes with a 5,000mAh battery which Samsung said it could last up to two days of use. There is support for 25W fast charging in this phone, but you’ll have to buy a charger separately.
Software is also the latest with One UI 4.1 and Android 12. The Galaxy A53 5G is among the first in the A Series to be eligible for 4 major OS (up to Android 16 in 2026) and 5 years of security updates (until 2027).
In Malaysia, you get the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. Storage is expandable.
For taking pictures and videos, Samsung is promising improved Night Mode with the 64MP main camera, with f/1.8 aperture and OIS. This is paired with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 5MP cameras (depth and macro). The selfie camera is 32MP.
Other features include IP67 dust and water resistance, dual stereo speakers and in-display fingerprint reader.
Available in 4 colours (Awesome Blue, Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Peach), the Galaxy A53 5G is now available in Malaysia at RM1,849. For a limited time, customers who purchase the device will receive a Galaxy A53 5G Protective Standing Cover, worth RM99.
