SHARP-MalaysiaTabah2021-fund-raising-covid19

Sharp Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (SHARP) launched the Malaysia Tabah 2021 initiative to support those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative will raise funds by giving away 2021 desktop calendars for every RM50 of donation received from the public and SHARP’s business partners. The desktop calendars will showcase photos taken during the Movement Control Order (MCO) by various photojournalists from The Star Publications and The Malay Mail.

In previous years SHARP’s annual desktop calendars would feature the company’s products. However, this time round, the company has decided to dedicate the entire calendar year in honour of the country’s various frontliners who have worked tirelessly to protect all Malaysians.

“During this extremely challenging period, SHARP has been ensuring that Malaysians can stay-at-home comfortably with SHARP products. We have been supporting the nation’s MCO stay-at-home campaign by making sure that customers’ request for repairs and replacement of appliances are attended to promptly despite the many limitations,” said Ting Yang Chung, Managing Director of Sharp Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

“Further to our ongoing commitment, we have decided to help raise funds through our #MalaysiaTabah2021 campaign, which we hope will alleviate the pressures faced by Malaysians affected by the pandemic. We wish to thank our media partners – The Star Publication and The Malay Mail — for their collaboration because it allows us to see through the lenses of their photojournalists and help us remember how we as a nation have stood together as a united front to overcome this pandemic and honour the fighting spirit of our frontliners,” added Ting.

SHARP plans to produce 20,000 pieces of desktop calendars and 100 percent of proceeds from the public’s donation will be channelled directly to the Tzu Chi Foundation for their ongoing work to support Malaysians. The non-governmental organisation (NGO) has been active in supporting frontliners and Malaysians in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To date, the Tzu Chi Foundation has distributed PPEs to 2,372 hospitals, clinics, police stations and other needy organisations nationwide. In addition, under the NGO’s own Kita1Keluarga initiative, it has disbursed much-needed aid to some 2,178 families (representing more than 9,100 beneficiaries) with each receiving between RM300 to RM800 per month for three consecutive months between September and November this year.

“We are committed to continue supporting our frontliners and fellow Malaysians regardless of race or creed. The ongoing pandemic has severely impacted the livelihood of all Malaysians and every little bit of support counts. Hence, we are extremely grateful to SHARP and the media partners for their support towards our Foundation’s work,” said Sio Kee Hong, Deputy CEO of Tzu Chi Foundation KL & Selangor.

All donations can be made through SHARP’s Cocoro Life, the company’s AI-powered e-Service and CRM platform. The website will go live on 16 December 2020, and members of the public who wish to donate can log on to this link.
