OPPO has officially launched the latest device in its ‘A’ series – the OPPO A93. The launch of this smartphone is seen as opportune because the market has seen a five per cent increase in smartphone penetration rate from 2018 to 2020, and this is expected to continue to increase up to 61 per cent by 2023. This model helps OPPO in bringing the AI photography technology to its consumers in the mid range market.
With its position as top vendor in Southeast Asia with a market share of 20.3% during the second quarter of 2020, OPPO is eager to continue the momentum. The A Series has also achieve the largest shares in 2020 for 4 consecutive quarters within its price range. Among its focus is the expansion of its IoT ecosystem, and the introduction of more innovative features across its smartphone business.
Tasked with the responsibility to introduce these innovative features is none other than the OPPO research and development team. This team participated in the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR), a leading global conference on AI last June and took home several awards, including two first place awards.
With that, now the OPPO A93 is integrated with some of these technologies, which is known collectively as the ‘6 AI Portrait Cameras’ system. It is one of the technologies that won the awards include perceptual extreme super-resolution technology which can make a blurry photo 16 times sharper naturally, visual localisation that can tell where the photo is taken by analysing the image, and human activity recognition in videos. The OPPO A93 provides exceptional camera technology, besting similarly priced devices. This device is equipped with a quad-camera system that consists of a 48MP F/1.8 main camera, an 8MP wide angle camera, two 2MP mono lens. The OPPO A93 can take extremely clear photos at up to 108MP during the daytime with its high resolution algorithm that accentuates images with retina-level clarity to capture rich details and textures, be it the veins of a leaf, or photographing close-up shots of a delicious meal.

On the colour wise, the OPPO A93 also introduces a Shiny Matte texture, which sees the return of the shimmer and brilliant streaks of light that users enjoyed with the last A Series phone. The design of the current device, however, has been updated with not only a premium feel that’s soft to the touch and easy on the eyes, but is also now fingerprint-resistant due to popular demand. The Shiny Matte texture is created using a brand-new optical coating technique that increases the coating’s depth from 250 nanometers to 400 nanometers and accentuates the light’s refraction, while enhancing the colours of the outer case. Metallic White offers a refreshing white colour with hints of pink reflected on certain angles.
