The latest Android tablet from Teclast is not only cheap but comes with good specifications as well. The Teclast P20HD tablet is powered by a decent CPU, a 10-inch HD display, 4G LTE, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, all these below the price of RM500.

Lighting Review of the Teclast P20HD

The not so good stuff:

  • The Teclast P20HD ships from Teclast in China. It took around 9 days for me to receive the tablet, which is acceptable but delivery time could be improved if they set up shop in Malaysia. For warranty claims, you will have to ship it back to Teclast HQ at your own cost.
  • Android 10 appears to be stable but its likely it may not get any updates (such as Android 11) due to the low price. Last security update was in June 2020. Teclast OTA app is installed though.
  • Teclast P20HD is not an Android certified device by Google. However, the Playstore is preinstalled and you can download apps, including from 3rd party store.
  • Tablet can be a little laggy/slow at times while using certain apps like Youtube and Netflix, but the apps did not crash so far. Restarting the tablet appears to solve the problem.
  • You could watch 1080p videos in Youtube but some videos don’t show up well (blurry image) and some appears to be limited to a 144p quality that can’t be changed. This can be fixed by using an alternative Youtube app such as Newpipe.
  • Netflix app is in Standard Quality (SD) mode only due to Widevine L3 certification, no HD support.
  • Its a little heavy at 531g, so its best to use a case with it. The case cost about less than RM40 with free delivery from China (promotional/sale at RM31 with delivery).
  • Battery is supposedly 7 hours for video playback but I was only getting 4-5 hours of screen time with around 60-80% brightness.
  • The display isn’t all that great due to an IPS display, not super AMOLED, but its a good display, not great. Not to be used directly under sunlight. Display is also a fingerprint magnet (with the preinstalled screen protector).
  • Both camera on the Teclast P20HD are terrible. The quality is not suitable for any pictures or video.
  • Slow charging, battery takes around 3 hours to charge from 10%.
  • Only available in one color- Grey.

The Good Stuff:

  • Built quality is solid and don’t feel cheap.
  • No bloatware installed and the Android 10 experience feels like stock experience and generally stable. Even Dark Theme is supported. You can also install other 3rd party launcher such as the Microsoft Launcher.
  • USB Type-C port
  • 1080p HD quality for videos (although not all app supported)
  • Loud Dual Speakers
  • Stable Dual Wifi connection and fast Dual 4G LTE Cat 7 with 4G+. Also supports VoLTE and VoWifi.
  • 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage with microSD card support at this price, quite a good deal.
  • Comes with preinstalled screen protector, USB type-C cable and charger (depending on promotion)
  • No major issues in portrait and landscape mode, depending on app support.

In summary, the Teclast P20HD is not high end or a great tablet, but if you want something simple like watching Youtube videos and some light gaming, this is a recommended device. I would also highly recommend that you get a case that comes cheap as well.

Currently the Teclast P20HD is being sold at RM499 on Lazada with free delivery to Malaysia, free charger/usb cable/screen protector. However, at promotional/flash sale price, you may get it as low as RM424.

  • Hi Bro… this screen diaplay is 1920×1200, and not 1920×1080.

  • I bought a Teclast Tablet Android M18[U] on 11-11-2020 and on 26-Dec-2020, it stopped working. The screen is totally black (probably the backlighting stopped working).

Since I bought this from Lazada, I went back to Lazada to find out how I can get help from their Customer Service support as they have no service center in Malaysia.

On Lazada, I was directed to use the Teclast chat, so I contacted them thru chat and explained my problem as clearly as possible as well as submitted the photos. At the same time, I also connected with Teclast on their official website and submitted a request for (After Sales) Customer Service, and provided all the information (S/N, Invoice #, etc. etc.) . On the chat, I got a reply that I should send an email to [email protected] and [email protected] with the photos and videos to describe my problem. I did that and got a error on the [email protected] (looks like the email server for that is either not recognizing the address or there’s issue with the mailbox) but the email to [email protected] went thru. It has been more than a week after I haven’t received any reply and I am getting frustrated. So I contacted Lazada to ask if they could help. I was super pissed off when I was told that they can’t do anything as this product was ordered more than 14days and the warranty has to be handled by Teclast and there’s NOTHING LAZADA can do about it.

I told Lazada that they have an obligation to check the integrity of their supplier/seller, but I don’t think they hear me at all.

So my advice to all of you out there. Be extremely careful when you decide to purchase anything from Lazada, especially when the product is shipped from another country and the seller has no service center. Damn bloody pissed!!!
