Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues to support the Government’s PRIHATIN Economic Stimulus Package as announced by the YAB Prime Minister with the launch of its “Digital Economy Special Programme” focusing on those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the rural and suburban areas covering SMEs, and individuals belonging to M40 and B40 groups. The programme is hoped to cushion the impact of the pandemic to the economy and to the Rakyat during the Movement Control Order (MCO), and as the nation returns to a new normal under the Conditional MCO (CMCO).
According to TM’s Chairman, Rosli Man, “In continuing the initiative to positively drive the national economy forward; TM will be investing in our Digital Economy Special Programme in line with our role to enable a Digital Malaysia. The programme will be focusing on the SMEs and individuals belonging to M40 and B40 groups in the rural and suburban areas. For the SMEs, we are providing a SME platform at unifi to enable entrepreneurs to start moving, and accelerate their business into the digital space. Meanwhile for students, we are providing the education sector with critical connectivity via TM ONE, to enable students to continue with their studies and interact with their teachers and lecturers digitally away from school and campuses. Towards this end, we have put a framework in place towards helping the Government and Rakyat especially in the rural and sub-urban areas. This is expected to give an extremely positive impact in four (4) key sectors covering health, education, digital services and entrepreneurial development. This will help drive the rural economy towards digitisation not just for connectivity services but to enable it on a business platform as well. Most importantly this programme is about job creation. TM’s vast and diverse network connectivity worldwide is sufficient to continuously support the demand of internet bandwidth requirement during the MCO period. Its strong relationships with international telco partners for upgradable international interconnection via submarine cable systems network worldwide and co-location as well as peering with the world’s technology giants and social networks enable end-users to access and enjoy seamless live video streaming, gaming and other applications provided by multiple content players during their stay at home.
