Tesla CEO Blasts Apple for the Quality of iPhone Software Updates

Tesla CEO Elon Musk himself is an Apple user, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that he agrees with everything the Cupertino-based tech giant does these days.

Speaking at the Satellite 2020 conference in Washington D.C., Musk blasted Apple for the quality of software updates shipped to iPhones lately, revealing that one of them actually broke his email.

The Tesla founder was asked to comment on a previous statement regarding the technology that declines in terms of quality due to skills themselves becoming irrelevant, and to respond, he used a comparison with Apple’s software update.

“What I was referring to is that technology does not automatically improve,” Musk explained. “People are used to the phone being better every year. I’m an iPhone user, but I think some of the recent software updates have like been not great, certainly feeding into that point. It, like, broke my email system… Which is quite fundamental.”

The iOS 13 adventure

While Musk himself hasn’t provided any other specifics on what software update broke the email on this iPhone, it’s not hard to guess that he’s one of the unlucky fellows who experienced issues with iOS 13.

Released in the fall of the last year, iOS 13 has so far provided users with mixed results, with some complaining of issues in various key areas, including performance and app crashes. The Mail app itself has been hit by various bugs, so presumably, Elon Musk was one of those where the update just ruined the experience with the app.

Apple is currently hard at work on polishing the experience in iOS 13, but at the same time, the company’s also focused on preparing the first preview of iOS 14. An early look at the next major software update for the iPhone is due in the summer at the WWDC, with the official launch scheduled for September.
