The second-generation iPhone SE, often referred to as iPhone 9, is the first iPhone model to see daylight this year, and renders published today provide us with an early look at this device.

Published by serial leakster OnLeaks and iGeeksBlog, the images confirm that the new iPhone SE will be based on iPhone 8, boasting a notch-less design with front-facing Touch ID.

The device is expected to come without Face ID given the lack of a notch.

With dimensions nearly identical with iPhone 8, iPhone SE 2 is more likely to be called iPhone 9, especially given the resemblance with the older model. The device features a 4.7-inch LCD screen, just like iPhone 8, and it’s likely to come with a single-lens camera and be powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic processor.

iPhone 11 Pro design touches

More interesting is that iPhone 9 could feature a frosted glass back, just like the one on the iPhone 11 Pro, rather than the glossy glass that Apple used on the iPhone 8. Wireless charging is also expected on the upcoming iPhone.

No new details are available on the price, but previous information coming from people familiar with Apple’s plans suggested the device could go on sale for about $399 for the base version.

This would make iPhone 9 the most affordable iPhone released this year – new iPhones, presumably called iPhone 12, are projected to be announced in the fall as successors to iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

As far as the release date is concerned, iPhone 9 is expected in the fall, with an announcement expected in late March or April.

Keep in mind that these are just renders of the second-generation iPhone SE, but given they come from a highly-reliable source, there’s a good chance they’re very accurate.
