Apple Stops Signing iOS 13.2.2 Firmware to Prohibit Downgrades from iOS 13.2.3

Apple has stopped signing older iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 firmware updates for supported iPhone and iPad devices, prohibiting users from downgrading their devices from the latest software release.

It’s been two weeks since Apple released the iOS 13.2.3 and iPadOS 13.2.3 software updates, which introduced more improvements for background apps along with various bug fixes for the Files, Mail, Messages and Notes apps, so now that company has stop signing older firmware to prohibit downgrades.

This is something Apple does on a regular basis a few weeks after a new software version is available to make sure its iPhone and iPad users are always using the latest releases, but this doesn’t mean also the most stable. From what we’ve see iOS 13.2.3 and iPadOS 13.2.3 are quite stable for now.

So if you’ve installed the latest software updates, you will no longer be able to downgrade your iPhone or iPad device to iOS 13.2.2 or iPadOS 13.2.2 as of December 3rd, 2019. Of course, this will also have a great impact on the jailbreak community, which relies on various exploits from previous releases, now patched in the new versions.

iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 are coming soon

In the meantime, Apple is still working on the next major software updates in the iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 series, namely iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3, which are currently in beta testing. The new software releases are expected to arrive sometime this month with a bunch of new features and, of course, more enhancements.

Along with the iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3, Apple will also release software updates for Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Macs, namely tvOS 13.3, watchOS 6.1.1, and macOS Catalina 10.15.2. Until then, make sure you are using the latest software version for your devices and always keep them up to date.
