Phone catching fire occasionally make the rounds, and this time it’s Samsung the one that’s getting the bad press.
A Samsung Galaxy S5 reportedly caught fire, causing several burns to the owner, according to a report from City News.
23-year-old Kunal Sharma, who suffers from muscular dystrophy and can only perform limited movement of his hands, was sitting in the living room when he felt the phone was getting warmer than it typically does.
Seconds after calling for his uncle to grab the phone, the Galaxy S5 caught fire, leaving the man with burns to the face and this left arm.
Samsung already investigating
The phone wasn’t charging at the time of the incident, and the owner says it did not undergo any servicing. Only original accessories have been used, he says.
“My uncle kicked it onto the floor,” Sharma was quoted as saying. “I was in pain, I couldn’t breathe, there was smoke all over. My nose and my lips got burned [as well as] my neck and my hands. I’m scared of touching electronics now,” he said. “I get nightmares too. In the night, I can’t sleep.”
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, Samsung says it has already started an investigation.
“Samsung takes customer safety very seriously. In any case of this sort, we take every step to investigate and remedy the concern. This relies on the customer allowing us to obtain the Galaxy S5 device and charger, which he has declined to do so far. Since we have not had an opportunity to inspect the device and charger we cannot speculate on the cause of the specific issue,| the company told the cited source.
Samsung previously had to recall the entire Galaxy Note 7 generation of phones after receiving a series of reports warning of overheating and devices catching on fire due to faulty batteries.
