Project Limitless is the years-long collaboration between Lenovo and Qualcomm to develop a new class of 5G connected PCs that are always-on, always-connected and engineered for smarter, modern computing experiences. The partnership and new Snapdragon™ 8cx 5G compute platform will open the door to transformative user experiences for both consumers and enterprise.
Demoed at COMPUTEX, this ultra-portable Lenovo laptop is the first-ever with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem, able to connect to a super-fast 5G network. The transition from 3G to 4G LTE has already transformed how people use their smartphones; likewise Lenovo sees huge growth potential of 5G by enabling smarter, modern computing through the promise of faster, always-connected PCs, and more immersive connectivity and sharing.
“At Lenovo, we don’t innovate for the sake of technology alone. Everything we do is about improving people’s experience,” said Johnson Jia, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Business of Intelligent Devices Group, Lenovo. “With real 5G in a PC, it’s all about satisfying users’ need for speed: faster file transfers and streaming in 4K, 8K and even AR/VR; faster and higher quality video chats on-the-go; even faster screen refreshes for mobile gaming. When we say limitless connectivity, we mean it – 5G PC users the world-over will save time, stay productive, or get online entertainment from nearly anywhere, at any time.”
The Snapdragon 8cx, the most extreme Snapdragon ever, supports immersive user experiences and will meet the needs of highly mobile users with multi-gigabit data speeds, long battery life, enterprise applications, and security-rich capabilities–even in thin form factors, including laptops. With Project Limitless, mobile multi-taskers and digital natives will enjoy the mobility of a smartphone without a WiFi connection or a hotspot on the familiar productivity features of their PC.
Imagine enabling real-time translation when conversing with others around the world as users converse in English with their Mandarin Chinese-speaking colleagues. Or, film students collaborating online while editing video footage in real-time and then upload the finished film almost instantly. Lenovo’s ultra-portable 5G laptop paired with Snapdragon 8cx’s ultra-low latency and extreme performance is engineered to make these, and many other, scenarios possible.
The next generation of always-on PC connectivity is here. Stay tuned as Lenovo and Qualcomm continue to advance the PC industry with Project Limitless to come in early 2020. We’re excited to see what the world can do with smarter technology in the hands of more people.
