The Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) under the Entrepreneur Development Ministry has appointed Dzuleira Abu Bakar as its new chief executive officer, effective today. It has also appointed a new board.
In a statement, the Ministry said Dzuleira has a wealth of experience in the local tech ecosystem nurturing and growing promising tech startups, after having served in various roles across Government agencies, Government-linked companies, as well as the private sector across multiple industries.
In particular, she is experienced in technology and innovation, venture capital and private equity, corporate financing, legal and governance, deal structuring, and stakeholder management. She holds a masters degree in management from Universiti Malaya, and a bachelor’s degree in law from Universiti Teknologi Mara.
“Prior to this appointment, Dzuleira was the CEO of Cradle Seed Venture, a growth stage venture capital fund. As an active venture capital investor, she sat on several boards of technology startups as well as being a council member of the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM),” the Ministry said.
According to MaGIC’s website, the agency was led by acting CEO, Amiruddin Abdul Shukor, prior to Dzuleira’s appointment. Established in 2014, MaGIC’s mission is to build a sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem and to catalyse creativity and innovation for long-term nation impact.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is represented on the new MaGIC board by its policy and entrepreneur strategy deputy secretary-general, Dr Anis Mahmud.
Also on the new board are Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s Dr Grace Lee Hwee Ling, who is the CEO of the company’s home shopping platform GoShop, as well as Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Chief Strategy Officer Azli Mohamed.
