In conjunction with Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)’s intent to spearhead 5G technology implementation in the country, Huawei Technologies today presented its first ever 5G technology showcase in the country. According to the leading ICT solutions provider, by the year 2025, the world will have 1.3 billion 5G connections, and to support these large numbers of data and users, Huawei is developing simple, powerful, and intelligent networks to continuously create value for its customers.

Michael Yuan, CEO of Huawei Malaysia said “As a trusted partner in Malaysia’s digital transformation, we are strongly committed to building a fully connected, intelligent world and to bring the benefits of digital and AI to every person, home, and organization. 5G is not just about better technology, it is an enabler that will create a more connected society, where high speed Internet is not a privilege, but a basic right for people and businesses.

“We certainly hope that the display of our 5G technology and its benefits, at the 5G Malaysia Showcase event here, will aspire 5G adoptions in different industries. We aim to continue being an enabler of the digital economy growth, including areas such as Smart Manufacturing, Smart Agriculture and Smart Healthcare. We at Huawei look forward to continue working with the Government, participating and promoting the adoption of the new General-Purpose Technologies (GPT) in various key industry domains,” he added.

The 5G technology showcase featured seven different types of products and services namely smart manufacturing, drone 4K live broadcast, facial recognition cloud system, digital healthcare, smart agriculture and aquaculture, Huawei’s RuralStar in remote cellular coverage and lastly, Huawei Mate X, the world’s fastest 5G foldable phone.

Up to now, Huawei has cooperated with more than 50 business partners worldwide in 5G commercial use, ranking first in the number of partners that it works with. The company has also obtained the largest number of 5G commercial contracts (30+) in the world, delivered over 40,000 5G base stations for commercial use globally. Huawei will continue to collaborate with partners to foster and accelerate the maturity of a 5G end-to-end industry and promote 5G scale commercialization for a fully connected, digital nation.

Huawei: 5G is ON in Malaysia

Smart Manufacturing

Huawei has built a 5G wireless system with Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC): massive MIMO and multi-connectivity technologies to enable adaptive, effective and efficient processes for the manufacturing industry, catering for dynamic change in demand and supply within short cycles. There will be a live demo with 5G using a camera to capture copper seal position precisely and transmitting its data to cloud in real time for information processing. Through 5G, the processed information will be sent to the robotic arms. The feeding robot then grabs the position information of the copper seal and coordinates with the engraving robot after reconfirming the position of both sides. The engraving robot then proceeds to send the instruction to the engraving industrial control computer through 5G network completing the carving task.

Drone 4K Live Broadcast via 5G Network

There will be a live demo showcasing wireless live 4K broadcast quality via 5G network on a drone. A live feed for an immense viewing experience will be transmitted to an industry grade huge screen in the launching hall enabling extreme low latency and 360-degree UHD broadcast quality. In real life scenarios, using drones over 5G can make remote controlling more effective and applicable in areas for accurate delivery of live feed UHD images/streaming, which in the future can support augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Other applications with drones include flying cameras, delivery, public security, precision agriculture, site inspection, and others.

Face Recognition Cloud System via 5G

5G enabling accessibility to Cloud Intelligence promotes services to be quicker, more responsive and offer a reliable connection. There will be a live demo showcasing 5G connecting the recognition device to a security system online, detecting peoples’ faces and recognizing their identities in real-time. Face recognition combine with biometric fingerprint, facial ID and/or Digital ID can be utilized for public security checkpoints in airport, metro, railway and immigration customs. This is done using digital wallets to capture personal information to confirm one’s identity and enable face track-&-trace to lock-down a suspect of a crime.

Digital Healthcare via 5G

A live demo showcasing a doctor using console equipment to control distal ultrasonic robots via 5G and perform remote examinations on the patient with a remote ultra-sound medical procedure. In real-life, 5G will enable doctors to conduct diagnostic by retrieving patient record in real-time, and conduct remote diagnostic with robotic arm control. This could significantly avoid negligible risks in healthcare and lower the cost of service delivery.

Smart Agriculture and Aquaculture Potential via 5G

In Aquaculture scenario, 5G can enable intelligent feeding which can significantly reduce the spread of disease in livestock, reduce waste food residue and increase productivity yields. In the exhibition hall, the smart agriculture showcases the raising paddy fields production through Centralised Monitoring Center with 5G enabled IOT and drones to monitor soil quality, weather, insect pest control and allow periodic testing remotely for timely and efficient irrigation mechanism. In addition, robots with 5G connection enables semi to full automation on repetitive timely task in agriculture too.

Huawei RuralStar expands cellular coverage to remote

RuralStar was primarily introduced to increase network operations and maintenance efficiency, rapidly deploy broadband to the home, connecting the unconnected and fully leverage existing networks and public assets to unleash site potential and maximize spectral efficiency. RuralStar provides full coverage for backhaul of up to 40km and can operate in difficult geographical areas such as rainforests and mountain ranges. This solution can cover up to 3,000 people per site. Lower power consumption makes pure solar power viable enabling ease of accessibility to rural areas thus creating equal opportunity. RuralStar enhances potential on smart agriculture and rural economy use cases and is a cost-effective solution for rural coverage.

HUAWEI Mate X the World’s fastest 5G Foldable Phone

Symbolizing the innovative DNA of the HUAWEI Mate Series, the HUAWEI Mate X features the Falcon Wing Mechanical Hinge, a 7nm multi-mode modem chipset Balong 5000 (Next-Generation 5G Modem Chipset), a high-capacity 4500 mAh battery supporting the world’s fastest 55 W HUAWEI SuperCharge and featuring the brand new Interstellar Blue finish. HUAWEI Mate X has been awarded the first 5G CE certificate by TÜV Rheinland becoming the world’s first 5G smartphone approved by the Notify Body of the European Union.

The acquisition of the world’s first 5G CE certificate for smartphone has laid the foundation for large-scale commercial use of 5G mobile phones in the future, once again highlighting Huawei’s leadership position on 5G.

Huawei will continue to actively promote the mature development of the 5G industry and provide users with real 5G solutions and experiences, steering innovation to build a fully connected, intelligent world.
