Fireman dies of injuries sustained during Seafield Temple Riot

Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the fireman who was hospitalised after being assaulted during a riot at a temple in Subang Jaya last month, has died.

The 24-year-old passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 9.41pm.

His death was confirmed by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

In a statement, the minister said his remains will be brought to the Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue station tomorrow morning for him to be accorded final respects.

“His remains will then be flown via helicopter to his hometown in Kedah where he will be buried after Zohor prayers.

“May his soul be placed among the righteous,” read the statement.

On Nov 27, Adib and other rescuers from the Subang Jaya Emergency Response System (EMRS) unit were deployed to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya to put out a vehicle fire.

However, Adib was dragged out of the vehicle and set upon by a mob.

He was later rescued by members the public who rushed him to the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) for treatment. He was later transferred to the IJN to receive further treatment.
