I have been a Telekom Malaysia Internet subscriber since the days of Streamyx. I have been paying RM199 per month for 20GB for many years.
Excited about the prospect of paying less, as repeatedly announced by the Communications and Multimedia Minister, I visited a TM office to ask when I would start to enjoy the new reduced rates.
To my disappointment, the person who attended to me said that I needed to sign a new two-year contract to enjoy the new rate. If I did not want to sign a new contract, they would increase my Internet speed but I would continue to pay RM199. I do not need to increase the Internet speed as the current speed is enough for my needs.
When I asked why a new contract was required, I was told that it was for the supply of a new modem.
There is nothing wrong with my current modem.
I am 72 years old and have supported TM all these years. Why should I need to sign a new contract for two years? I am sure there are many fellow Malaysians who share my disappointment.
I appeal to the minister and his ministry to get TM to allow us to continue with our service and enjoy the cost reduction without forcing us to sign a new contract.
If the Pakatan Harapan government wants the rakyat to truly enjoy cheaper Internet service, get all the providers to just reduce the price without introducing new conditions.
