The education ministry is dissatisfied with the poor service provided by YTL Communications Sdn Bhd under the 1BestariNet project and plans to call for a new tender next year, said Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching.
The government had paid RM741 million to date and the second phase of the RM4.45 billion project was slated to expire in June 2019, she said.
“The ministry will be choosing the best proposal from the market players, which gives the best pricing and internet speed, and the contract will be awarded on an open tender basis,” she said at the Parliament lobby.
1BestariNet is aimed at improving the information communication technology system and the SchoolNet services in schools through 4G broadband connectivity and virtual learning environment.
