Outsourcing Malaysia (“OM”), a chapter under the National ICT Association (‘PIKOM’) will be holding its 9th Annual GBS Asia Awards 2018 (formerly known as ‘Outsourcing Malaysia Excellence Awards’) to honour outstanding contributions and performance by Malaysia’s top companies in the Global Services Sector (GBS)
GBS Asia Awards will be held on the 18th October 2018, in conjunction with the Smart Sourcing Summit 2018.
Cheah Kok Hoong, Chairman of Outsourcing Malaysia says, “Due to the rising number of local GBS companies which have grown to the regional space – be it in the geographical or revenue business expansion, hence Outsourcing Malaysia decided to change of the name of the Award to better reflect this.”
He says that the GBS sector has long been a priority by the country, to drive Malaysia to be a major Business Services player in the region; and the GBS Asia Awards is in effort to recognize local companies that have shown excellence by upholding best practice and standards in this sector.
Asia Pacific dominated the largest market share at 36% or USD240 billion of the world’s GBS market in 2014. Based on this, the Malaysia’s GBS sector is estimated to continue recording a healthy growth of between 10 – 15% over the next few years.
Anthony Raja Devadoss Chair for GBS Asia Awards 2018 says, “GBS Asia Awards will set the best in class standards for innovation and creativity in the Global Business Services industry in Malaysia and Asia. It is a testament to the professional skills, outstanding quality, and vision of GBS companies – their people and the services based in Malaysia or regionally serving the global markets.”
Outsourcing Malaysia’s GBS Asia Award started back in 2011 as part of the industry’s endeavor to recognize, motivate and reward excellence in the ‘Business Process Outsourcing’ sector (which now is better, and inclusively known as the ‘Business Services’ sector).
Held annually, this time the GBS Asia Award will see a total of 36 categories for companies and individuals to participate.
Over the years OM has recognised more than 30 organisations who have attained outstanding achievements in receiving these awards.
Hew Wee Choong, Vice President, Investment & Industry Development, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) says, “Global Business Services (GBS) is a major contributor to Malaysia’s digital economy. MDEC, as the agency entrusted to drive the development of the country’s digital economy, is committed to ensure Malaysia continues to be a premier destination for digital services investments, especially for the GBS sector. We applaud Outsourcing Malaysia’s efforts to recognize local GBS players who are pushing the boundaries beyond Malaysia, leveraging on what they have achieved here to expand globally and take their operations to even a greater height.”
Stringent Evaluation for High Standards
The GBS Asia Award also adapts the IAOP (International Association of Outsourcing Professionals) certification, thus making them globally recognized via a stringent process and criteria process of evaluation.
The evaluation process will take a period of 4 months and involves a judge panel of about 15 professionals from the region and also locally. All shortlisted companies and candidates for the Awards need to do presentations and interview sessions that cover the areas of their business, strategic plans and operations including service level agreements (‘SLA’s), special projects and initiatives that drive value towards their clients and end objective.
GBS Asia Award 2018 will be aimed at buyers, end-users and service providers, whom have individually and collectively pursued global best practice in crafting sustainable value by leveraging outsourcing model.
