Johor Bahru, 2nd April 2018 – YAB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Menteri Besar of Johor together with YB Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, Communications and Multimedia Minister launched Johor 4.0 – Digitising ‘Bangsa Johor’ with Boost, an e-wallet service by Axiata Digital e-Code. The event was launched at the Indoor Arena, EduCity Sports Complex in conjunction 14 other partners of Digital Johor Sdn Bhd (DJSB), namely UTM, ImCoop and many more that are in discussion with Boost. This marks another milestone partnership will serve to expand the cashless ecosystem in Malaysia and enable as many local businesses to tap into the card-less mobile electronic wallet lifestyle.

Currently Boost merchants can be found at Jakel, Bazaar Karat at Johor Bahru Central/Skudai, Kilang Batteri, Angsana Mall and KSL Mall. Boost is also spreading its base in other popular spots and malls in Johor Bahru such as Komtar JBCC, Medini Mall and its surrounding areas. The event was preceded by the Digital Carnival Johor 4.0 on the 1st of April which included food trucks from the state and local branded merchants.

Boost is now a leading e-wallet with over 2.1mn users with online and offline merchants located in over 9,000 locations. Boost aims to revolutionize the way Malaysian consumers transact by creating a seamless payment experience without cash or cards. It serves the youth segment and mass consumers to merchants at selected pasar malam, food trucks, food courts and across various industries such as F&B, entertainment, transportation, online shopping and bookstores to name a few. As a lifestyle application, users can perform services such as buying prepaid top ups and digital vouchers as well as gifting them, free cash transfers and even “Go Dutch” with its unique split bills feature. They also get instant cash back when using the service with rewarding and addictive experiences.

According to Digital Johor Sdn Bhd (DJSB) Managing Director Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah “Boost will be instrumental in driving cashless payment in Johor, and to bring the underserved into digital economy whether it is a ‘pasar malam’ merchant or someone without a credit card. We hope to see all of Bangsa Johor and Boost lead the way towards a cashless economy in the state.” Chief Executive Officer of Axiata Digital e-Code, Christopher Tiffin added “This collaboration spearheaded by the state will expand financial inclusion, especially in addressing consumers and small businesses that are unable to access traditional financial channels. We look forward to working closely with our Johor partners in moving Bangsa Johor towards a cashless society within Malaysia’s Digital Economy.”
