PIKOM, the National ICT Association of Malaysia, announced the winners of industry’s coveted PIKOM ICT Leadership Awards (PILA) 2014 at its Annual Gala Dinner on 14 November 2014. The annual affair saw a strong attendance of 600 industry players as well as policy-makers.
Recipients of PIKOM ICT Leadership Awards 2014This year, PILA has a total of 5 categories namely Member Excellence Award, ICT Project of the Year, Technopreneur Excellence Award, CIO of the Year, and ICT Personality of the Year.
The Silverlake Group received the Member Excellence Award while CIMB won the ICT Project of the Year award. For the individual category, CIO of AMBANK Charles Tan was named CIO of the Year, while Founder of MyTeksi, Anthony Tan received the Technopreneur Excellence Award. Dato’ Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, Chairman of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission was conferred the ICT Personality of the Year.
In addition, PIKOM gave due recognitions to companies that have been instrumental in reaching out to the global markets and making a name not only for their products and services, but also for the country. They are Telekom Malaysia Research and Development, MOL AccessPortal, Galasys Solution and ADV Fusionex.
The awards were presented by Dato’ Sri Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and Cheah Kok Hoong, Chairman of PIKOM.
At the awards ceremony, Cheah congratulated the winners and urged the industry to come together to take on the challenges in 2015, especially with the imminent implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST). He further mentioned one of the key initiatives in 2015 is to drive the newly formed individual membership. “We are excited to build a good foundation for the individual membership which will ultimately benefit the industry as a whole. It would be a key platform for the over 400,000 ICT professionals in the country to meet and share ideas. Imagine a breeding ground for trend-setting and innovative ideas where discussion on skills in demand will be inevitable.” said Cheah.
The PIKOM ICT Leadership Awards 2014 honors the individuals and companies that have demonstrated ICT’s best practices in their industry, commending the diligence, commitment, and innovative business strategies required to advance in the global marketplace. The awards are also conferred to recognize those that have pushed the boundaries of excellence – demonstrating outstanding performance and contributing to the growth of Malaysia’s ICT industry.
