pitchIN, a Malaysia crowd funding platform announced that the recently concluded TAPAUfest youth festival project successfully raised RM87,705, surpassing its target of RM85,000.

This makes TAPAUfest the largest successfully funded project in South East Asia, according to pitchIN. The crowdfunded youth festival attracted 345 backers, also making it the most supported project in the region.

TAPAUfest is a youth festival organised by IkanPaosKolektif. It took place on 14 June 2014 at Quarry Park, Penang Botanic Garden. The indie festival featured live performances by local music outfits as well as traditional performances, workshops, sales of street wear and crafts and food stalls. The event is also in conjunction with the launch of TAPAUtv, a free indie online TV channel for Malaysian youth.

Ahmad Faris from TAPAUfest said, “It was tough getting this youth festival funded in just thirty days. We spent day and night pushing for support. We want to take this opportunity to thank all our backers for their belief in us. Very special thanks also goes to HyppTV for joining us as our biggest corporate supporter. We are also grateful for the warm response we have received from so many friends in the creative community. ”

pitchIN co-founder Sam Shafie said, “pitchIN is thrilled to see TAPAUfest generate so much attention in social media. We are delighted to see that many young people and organizations joined forces to push TAPAUfest over its finishing line.”

“The crowdfunding momentum in Malaysia is picking up very nicely. pitchIN has listed more crowdfunding projects this year than 2012 and 2013 combined. The number of successfully funded projects is also up sharply. Projects such as TAPAUfest have managed to reach new audiences and we believe that it is now only a matter of time before crowdfunding becomes second nature here. Malaysia is now at the forefront of the crowdfunding movement in South East Asia and we are confident that Malaysia will soon see the same levels of crowdfunding successes as that seen in the States and Europe,” he added.

pitchIN claims that it is Malaysia’s largest crowdfunding platform with partners such as Cradle Fund, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and Teach For Malaysia. To check out other crowdfunding projects, please visit www.pitchin.my.
