Popular virtual private network (VPN) service provider, CyberGhost VPN has launced its Mac OS X app on June 5, during a live Hangout on Google+.
The new Mac OS X app, which offer users encrypted connection to the Internet for surfing the web was launched on June 5 because on that day last year NSA contractor Edward Snowden leaked the first set of information revealing that the US and other governments have been engaged in the mass surveillance of the planet’s internet users.
“CyberGhost shares great respect for Snowden for making the whole world aware of the risks we face every time we connect to the Internet or make a phone call,” said Robert Knapp, co-founder and CEO of CyberGhost VPN.
CyberGhost said that it aims to protect the online identity and the privacy of its users, no matter where they are located on the globe.
The CyberGhost VPN app for Mac has a intuitive and user-friendly interface similar to the desktop app on Windows.
“Our app gives you anonymity, which is the best and most effective way to keep your Internet sessions private and secure,” said Iulia Porneala, CyberGhost’s Director of Business Development. “Mac users will love it, because it’s simple, fast, and powerful,” she added.
With just one click CyberGhost VPN’s users can change their IP and unlock content that may have been unavailable from their location, while keeping their online identity secret. CyberGhost uses the strongest encryption standard available today, 256-bit AES, often utilised by the military.
CyberGhost’s users can choose from a free and a premium version. The free service, which has received very good reviews from IT experts, allows users access to 36 servers. Premium users have access to more than 300 servers located in 23 countries in Europe, Asia and North America.
“There is a high potential of growth for the VPN industry, as according to data from the International Telecommunications Union there are 2.77 billion Internet users worldwide, and all of them should try to protect their online identities and learn from the information revealed by Edward Snowden,” Porneala said.
“We all live in the post-Snowden world, knowing now that we don’t have privacy at the moment we go online!,” said CyberGhost VPN’s Co-founder and CEO Robert Knapp. “Our service helps users to guard their privacy and their online freedom in times of total uncertainty. We are a new type of startup that offers privacy as a service, not making money from user data like Facebook, Google, Yahoo and others, because we do not store any user data,” he added.
