Digital music service, Spotify announced that Sunita Kaur has been appointed as its Director of Asia.

In Sunita’s new role, she will drive the strategic direction for the company across the region following the music service’s launch in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia this April, the company said in a media statement.

Sunita’s responsibilities will include overseeing Spotify’s expansion across Asia, as well as managing the region’s sales division.

“Spotify has been leading the music revolution across Europe and the US and the opportunity to help continue that journey into Asia was one I wasn’t going to miss,” says Sunita.

With over 17 years’ experience in the industry, including print stints at Time Warner and Singapore Press Holdings, Sunita was Associate Director, Singapore and International Accounts at Microsoft Advertising before moving to Facebook as Director, Asia, in 2010.

“We’ve been waiting for Spotify to arrive in Asia for a while and the reception we’ve received has been overwhelming,” says Sunita.

She adds: “We give you access to one of the world’s largest and most diverse music catalogues, for free. That’s an unbeatable deal, and one that’s helped us build a big audience in just a few short weeks. This is just the beginning for Spotify in Asia.”

Sunita will be based in Spotify’s Singapore office.

Spotify is now available in 28 markets: USA, UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland and Mexico, with more than 24 million active users, and over 6 million paying subscribers.
