700 cybercriminal gangs busted in China says Government

In a campaign against online crimes launched in August, China’s Ministry of Public Security has closed down about 3,500 spam Web sites.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Security said since August, various police units in the country solved 4,400 Internet-related cases, busted 700 cybercriminal gangs and arrested 8,900 suspects. Some 1.88 million harmful messages were also deleted in the process.

The current Web policing efforts were an extention of a campaign which started in March. The online crimes include gun-selling, fraud, burglary, hacker attacks, selling of counterfeit products, according to the ministry.
